Book 10 - Ten Out Of Ten
PICTURE OF BOOK
It's the last couple of weeks of Mia's senior year and things aren't going all that well. Therapy doesn't seem to be helping her anymore, J.P. hasn't asked her to the prom, she has gotten into every college she applied to (but only thinks this is because she's a princess), no one will publish her romance novel, Ransom My Heart (her senior project) and she's told everyone it's a history of Genovian olive oil presses circa 1254-1650, Rene is ahead of her father in the polls for the election of the new Genovian Prime Minister, and the biggest problem... Michael Moscovitz is back from Japan and back in her life again! The big question now is: Is Michael still in love with Mia and vice versa?
Mia finds out from her mom and dad that Michael is back in New York (a huge success and very rich) and will be donating a CardioArm, the tool he invented in Japan for closed heart surgery, to Columbia University. Her friends find out about this and drag Mia to the event where she manages to keep a low profile. Unfortunately for Mia, just as she's about to leave since the ceremony ended, Lilly discovers Mia and brings her to see Michael up on the stage. Mia acts all shy around him and that leads her to tell him that she's there for her school paper, The Atom, and is covering a story on him. They meet up for coffee the next day and she ends up sending to his phone a copy of her romance novel, after she finally tells him the truth about it and finishes interviewing him.
Grandmère finds out about Michael's CardioArm and wants Mia to get one so that it will help her dad in the election. She even sends Lilly, Michael, and their parents invitations to Mia's eighteenth birthday party. It is there that J.P. finally asks Mia to prom, where he kneels and asks her with a three carat diamond ring. She accepts later that night, even though she was devastated when she saw Michael leave the yacht, where the party was being held, as soon as J.P. had kneeled. This confirmed in Mia's mind that any hope she had about Michael still being in love with her was simply wishful thinking.
However, two days later, Mia finds out from her dad that Michael donated a CardioArm to the Royal Genovian Hospital. Everyone, including her dad, Tina, Grandmère and even Lars, is convinced that Michael did it because he still likes (maybe even still is in love with) her. Well, everyone except Mia. She does however send him a text which thanks for it and they agree to meet for lunch at the Central Park Boathouse restaurant on Senior Skip Day. On the morning of Senior Skip Day, Mia receives a call from a publisher at Avon Books who agrees to publish her novel, but under her real name instead of the name she had been using, Daphne Delacroix, and she accepts. So, she meets Michael for lunch and afterwards they take a ride in a Central Park horse carriage, where they kiss for about twenty-one blocks. Mia is stunned that that even happened and when she goes to therapy to talk about it, she asks Dr. Knutz to open a text message from Michael with her. It reads: Mia, I'm not sorry. And I'll wait. Love, Michael.
Even though Mia is convinced that she and Michael love each other, she still decides to go to the prom with J.P. and then sleep with him after the prom. She tells Tina of her decision to sleep with J.P. after the prom in one of the AEHS bathrooms, and Lilly overhears the entire conversation. At the prom, she finds out many things about J.P. such as: he's the one who was calling the paparazzi on himself whenever he was with Mia so he could possibly better his career as a playwright, he lied to her about booking a room at the Waldorf-Astoria (he said he booked a room the that week but the rooms were sold out several weeks ago), and he wasn't virgin at all (he had slept with Lilly). Mia also finds out from Lilly that the real reason J.P. broke up with her (Lilly) was because Mia had become available. She calls him on it before they go upstairs to the rooms and when she finally knows that he's lied about everything, she gives him back the ring and breaks up with him. Mia and Lilly also become friends again.
Just as Mia's about to leave, she runs into Michael. Michael tells her that Lilly told him to be there around midnight to stop Mia from doing something she'd regret (remember that Lilly overheard Mia's conversation with Tina about sleeping with J.P. after the prom). They go back to Michael's loft and Michael gives her the snowflake necklace back. Michael had kept it ever since Mia dropped in the hotel room that night long ago when they broke up. It turns out that Michael had asked Boris to keep an eye on Mia. Boris thought that J.P. and Mia were madly in love (even though they weren't) and that's what he reported back to Michael. Michael didn't give up hope though so he kept the necklace. Mia finally knows that Michael had never stopped loving her, thinking of her, and hoping, just like Mia. That night, they finally have sex. The next day is AEHS' graduation day ceremony and that's when Mia decides to go to Sarah Lawrence for college. The final conclusion?: Mia's dad wins the election with the help of the CardioArm donation and a commercial Lilly made in favor of Mia's dad; Mia is still friends with Tina, Shameeka, Lana, Trisha, Ling Su, and Perin; Mia and J.P. are just friends; Lilly and Mia are friends again; and Michael and Mia are a couple again.
